Lessons & Tuition

Lessons are private, one-to-one, and scheduled weekly. The length of the lesson is matched to the student’s age and experience — here is how I usually recommend choosing.

Lesson lengths

30 minutes

For young beginners with less than one year of experience. Short and focused, which suits the attention span of a first-year student far better than a long lesson would.

45 minutes

For most intermediate students, with roughly one to three years of playing experience. This is the most common choice in the studio.

60 minutes

For intermediate students with more than three years of experience, where repertoire, technique and theory all need real time in the same lesson.

90 minutes

For advanced students at Level 6 and above, with more than five years of experience — particularly those preparing for examinations or competitions.

Tuition

[ADD: your rates for each lesson length, and whether tuition is billed monthly or per lesson. Listing prices is optional — some studios prefer to discuss them at the trial lesson — but it is the first thing most parents look for, and the old site never answered it]

Your first lesson is free

I offer a free trial lesson with no obligation. It gives your child a chance to sit at the piano with me, and gives you a chance to see how I teach before committing to anything.

Recitals

Students perform in at least two recitals each year. Participation is warmly encouraged — performing for a friendly room is where a great deal of the growth actually happens — and you can see more than a decade of past recitals on the recitals page.

Examinations

Students who wish to can prepare for Certificate of Merit evaluations through MTAC, or for ABRSM examinations. These are entirely optional, and I will always talk through with a family whether the timing is right before we begin preparing.

Practice at home

I ask students to practise at least four times a week. Regular short sessions do far more good than one long session the day before a lesson, and steady practice is the single clearest predictor of whether a student enjoys their playing.

Studio policies

[ADD: your policies on make-up lessons, cancellations and notice, payment schedule, holidays and summer term. Putting these in writing now prevents most awkward conversations later]

Studio location

The studio is in Fremont, California 94539.

[ADD: decide whether to publish your full street address here. Your old site listed it openly; many home studios list only the city and ZIP publicly and share the exact address once a family books a trial lesson. Entirely your call]
